handmade bookends

blog1

I saw this tutorial for bookends and I immediately thought of scrapbook paper. The colors in this kit were so gorgeous, so I decided to give it a try. This project is so simple you won’t believe it.

Supplies:
2 Concrete Bricks (Home Depot has these for 35 cents.)
Kraft Wrapping Paper
Patterned Paper
Sewing Machine (optional)
Adhesive

1. Wrap the bricks with the kraft much like you would a present. Make sharp creases on all of the edges. See…

blog2

2. Cut 14 1 inch x 12 inch strips or enough to cover the height of the brick with a little room left over. I then sewed mine together with a zig zag stitch on my machine – that’s optional.

3. Adhere strips around wrapped brick (they will most likely not meet in the back.) Make sharp creases at the corners.

4. At this point you could embellish the front with words, alphabets or other embellishments. I’m a simple gal so I left them plain.

Install on a shelf – beautiful! If you make them, please link me up I’d love to see!

march gallery & reveal night winner

march has been amazing. from the creative team gallery to the responses we’ve had from you, i am so grateful and thankful that you are here with us at kenner road. i didn’t anticipate the demand we’d have for our march kits but i have incresed our april kits so hopefully we won’t sell out as quickly and everyone who wanted a kit and/or addon can get one, especially since they’ll contain some kenner road exclusive items. however, if you want to make sure you get a main kit you can still sign up for subscriptions here. this is the only way i can guarantee there will be one with your name on it. ;)

i also picked our winner from our reveal night mini kit giveaway. congrats kim! send me an email and i’ll get the mini kit out to you asap!

and… to celebrate an amazing month i thought i’d share my favorite layouts from our amazing guest designer cindy tobey as well as the rest of our talented creative team.

cindy_4_1

i just adore this layout by cindy. all of those framed sassafras lass elephants were perfect for it.

amy_21_1

amy created a fun shaker box style accent on this beautiful layout using the packaging from the jenni bowlin chipboard buttons. do you see the seed beads inside? perfect!

debee_24_1

i adore the color combo on this layout by debee, that and all of the number sequences and as always her amazing spray paint background.

dina_34_1

dina is my inspiration for paint and masking and creating artful pages. i love the photo she chose for this one.

gigi_24_2

gigi’s 52q notebook is just stunning. i’m a sucker for patchwork and collage and this is the perfect meeting of both.

jessi_13_1

i think jessi created such a beautiful wall hanging with the 7gypsies board book heart. and clustering is always good. always.

lisa_10_1

lisa always astounds me by the time she puts into her projects. can you believe she crocheted that border around this layout? *sigh* this is bliss.

do you have a favorite layout and/or project by the team this month? i’d love to hear!

community-winner

and don’t forget about our next giveaway that we mentioned in our reveal night newsletter. upload any layout and/or project using a kenner road kit {any kit!} to the kenner road flickr pool between now and april 13 and you will automatically be entered into the drawing to win an april addon kit. and make sure you check out the incredible inspiration in our pool. there are some amazing creations being shared there!

happy st patricks day!
