gratitude thursday : making

i’ve been spending some time off and on this week in the studio. 15-30 stolen minutes of time to do something without a major purpose or need. cutting paper and assembling a book. re-purposing old vintage fabrics. becoming reacquainted with my serger. ruffling. stitching. making. taking time in between planning the upcoming book fair at the little’s school (two weeks!) and finding ways to keep them busy since it’s conference week and they’re out before noon. it’s been a while since i’ve made a conscious effort to sneak in some creating each day, and i’m trying my best to do this when i feel i need a break. all of it little steps towards finding small snippets of peace in my day and focusing on the good and what i’m grateful for.

happy grateful thursday my friends.

in the studio

There is lots of making going on here. I’m flitting from this thing to that, experimenting and trying on some ideas that have been stuck in my head for a while. Making tags for the sake of making them. Playing around in illustrator. Combining plaster and paint and inks & crepe paper simply because i have had some old cones lying around for 3 years and wanted to use them. Patchworking JBS. You know, just another day (or two or three or twelve) in the studio. I hope wherever you are you making things and enjoying the process.

Happy Tuesday.

books to shelves + giveaway winner

a few weeks ago i spent some time cleaning, purging and rearranging the studio. for a while i’ve been wanting some narrow shelves along the wall at the back of my two large workshop tables. at first i thought i was going to use some old bricks that i had from a garden path project but then i remembered the stacks of old readers digest books that i had left over from an old kR kit. i gathered three books, wrapped them tightly in old twine and stacked them with some old vintage boards from the shed. the back was made with old pink trim that i purchased at my favorite salvage yard in SF over a year ago. yes. my motto is collect first, decide what to do with it later. ;)

i also picked the winner of the everyday eclectic winner from over the weekend…

send me an email kazoulis with your contact info including mailing address and i’ll pass it along to allison & echo park asap.

happy monday!

studio progress

four days of working on cleaning up the piles and piles of stuff in the studio while the little’s were at school last week. finding lost items and things i’d forgotten i had, like the vintage educational flashcards. rearranging and organizing the library card box to hold tools & washi. discovering that there are certain ways i need things organized (by color in their own bins) in order to be able to concentrate on creating. loving my studio mascot. stacking old fruit crates. seeing new uses for old, old things. finding a necklace i had lost buried under 2′ of stuff. breathing. compiling the biggest box of supplies i no longer want and passing them along to my mom who just started scrapbooking (yay mom!). realizing i probably still have another day or so to finish. dreaming of the vintage mixed media kits i’m about to put together for the shop. thankful for instagram & followgram so i can share my progress with all of my beautiful friends, like you.

what have you been doing?

happy monday!
