I had a chance to create some items for the Portland Quilt Show for Tim Holtz’s new fabric line Eclectic Elements. It’s a beautiful vintage collection, full of ephemera print fabrics and the most beautiful butterfly prints. The bag I made was so fun to make, free-cut without a pattern, which is so normal for me now. And the altered Union Jack pillow was loosely inspired by a few I’ve seen on pinterest. The laundry pin bag I’ve made countless times for friends, I simply stitched random extra pieces from the line together and then added some hand stitched accents. Vintage, yet Modern, it’s so lovely and should be available sometime in June at your favorite retail fabric store.
it was a good year of halloween costume making. i’m not sure who had more fun, the kids when they got to wear them, or me as i was watching them. the bean has always had me help with her costumes, (a care bear, tinkerbell, a pegacorn, cat woman, and catsuma) as she’s always wanted to be something nontraditional. the little man, he’s been a care bear, bob the builder, lightening mcqueen, batman and last year a padawan. all pre-made costumes purchased by yours truly. which has been fine. so, this year, when i finally got to make him something, i was thrilled! there were a couple of other minecraft costumes at school, a creeper & zombie & herobrine, but no steve. awesome.
and the owl costume took me an entire day of serging feathers before i even got to put it all together. what we do for our grateful children so their imaginations can soar.
i shared this pic yesterday on instagram but wanted to share here too for anyone not following me there. i’ve been working on designing some fabric for about two weeks and finally sent the final designs in yesterday. i think that middle row of arrows is going to be used a lot, they’re kinda my fav out of the whole collection. as soon as i get the sample strikes back i’ll let you know as you’ll be able to order them directly in whatever yardage size you’d like. it’s a fun process and something i’ve wanted to do since i made the collage cuts that some of you may remember from some past kR kits. in fact, i loaded some of the older kR collage designs up and you can order them now if you’d like along with a few other vintage designs.
let me know what you think.
a little peek of the mixed media book i’m making for CHA with the product i designed. eeks!!
i just wanted to give a huge shout out to my wonderful friend charlotte. she has an amazingly beautiful new fabric line “walnut hill farm” being released through anna griffin‘s new fabric company blend fabrics this weekend. check out her look book, it is perfect for the vintage lover. the flashcard fabric & the silhouette collage fabric are my favs.
