capturing summer

in the effort to try to capture a bit of summer, i created a summer journal back at the end of may using my kenner road kits. it was so fun to create & i’ve really enjoyed filling up the pages. i’m just popping in some photos that are on my desk, adding in the story and a bit of embellishment. it is a great place for those special summer moments like my son, ryan, getting his soccer trophy, snippets of conversation between my kids (like when kelly told kate “i don’t need to go into details” when they were arguing about what actually constituted a playdate. LOL!!), and our regular order these days at our local ice cream stand. i usually think i’ll always remember these things, then dollars to doughnuts, 4 hours later i’ll completely forget them. for example, today kelly was asking me if she liked freestlye as much last year as she does this year. and you know for the life of me, i can’t remember exactly. i remember her trying it a lot (spurred on by michael phelps and his olympic triumphs) but i think she was still pretty set with the breast stroke, doing that one 9 times out of 10. but i’m not sure…i think i need more ginko biloba or something. :)
SEE? it’s these important little changes or little signs of progress, it’s these little things that truly make up the magic of summer. & because my mind is mush, these are the things i always tend to forget. so i love having a special place to keep it all. some of these stories and photos may also make it into a layout or two, but they also have a special place in my summer journal.
my summer journal is a real, no hassle kind of thing & i think that because i’m choosing to keep it this way, it’s pages are actually getting done. my book is filling up with those everyday moment pictures & silly moments that i treasure. it’s nothing fancy but i’m loving it….just journal keeping at it’s simplest :)
here is an example of a couple pages that i did in june for the gallery:

now we are in august, (how the heck did that happen!)…summer has been whizzing by & i’m on a mission to continue to fill up this journal with all of that magic (& sometimes the mishaps) of summer 2009. today practices for football & cheerleading started and i know i’m going to blink and my kids are going to be back in school. so this week i am doing my journal pages just using the embellishments & scraps on my desk. i tend to get overwhelmed with all the choices of product & things do not get done, so forcing myself to just create with what is in front of me has been so wonderful. the embellishment kit is really great for journaling like this. just grab your kit, a pen, a gluestick & go :)
i’ve got some pages to share with you using the july kits and will post them up tomorrow. (the sun set on me tonight before i got a chance to take photos.) so pop on by tomorrow & i’ll have some more journal examples for you. & i hope you think about starting your own family seasonal journal….fall IS around the corner ya know ;)
until then…enjoy!!!
xoxo
